Small Business Speaker

Small to medium business speaker who has actually run one

You started the business to get more control over your life. Some weeks it feels like the business got control of you instead. The work is good, the customers keep coming, and somehow you are still the only one who can sign off, fix the mess and lock up at night.

I have lived every bit of that across 18 years running a business. As a small to medium business speaker, I talk to owners as a peer who has been in the chair, with the bruises to prove it. The aim is always the same: a business that holds together when you step back. My business strategy keynote goes deeper on exactly that.

The pressures every owner knows

  • The business cannot run a week without you in it.
  • Good people are hard to find and harder to keep.
  • Strategy keeps losing to whatever is on fire today.
  • The stakes are personal, because your name is on the lease and the loan.

What the room gets from me

Owners leave feeling understood, with a handful of practical changes they can make straight away to take some weight off and lift the business. I speak in plain language, with real stories, and I keep the energy up without slipping into the kind of pep talk that fades by the car park.

An owner who has sat in your chair

After the bushfires I ran a recovery and strategy session for more than 30 owners at Lake Eildon who had lost their summer trade, and we got them back to basics and moving again. That is the work I love. See more of it or read my background.

What to look for in a small business speaker

Owners can tell within minutes whether a speaker has been in the chair. Look for someone who has carried payroll and made the hard calls, who speaks with owners rather than at them, and who keeps it practical. Ask whether the talk suits your audience and whether there is something concrete to take home. Owners do not need another motivational hour; they need someone who gets their week.

Formats

Keynote, strategy day, leadership workshop, or the deeper owner retreat.

FAQs

Owner-led small and medium businesses, often in trades, services and industrial, though the lessons carry across most owner-run businesses.

Either. The keynote sets the mindset; the strategy day and retreat do the deeper work.
